#31: Hypocrisy is Having a Party

The RH Bill.

I tried to shut up and not be part of the debate. However I am disturbed by how a big deal this is becoming. The house debates are actually being aired live for everyone to see politicians spewing  principles of purity and freedom of choice and how these debates also digresses into off tangent topics and eventually personal insults. In my mind, this seems to be a very sensible move in helping alleviate poverty in our country that's why it puzzles me how other people and religious personalities is making it such a big deal. It's as if our nation will fall to the pits of hell if we allow reproductive health to be a part of the Filipino's mentality.

This is how I see it. Withholding contraceptives from our people does not assure us of a morally upright, sexually pure nation.
One's real righteousness is defined by what you do alone, what you do in the dark. Not by what you bark out over the mic or by what you say you believe. It is not as if trashing the RH bill will sanitize our nation from all prostitution or pre-marital sex, unwanted pregnancies and worst of all, abortion. RH Bill or not, a person will eventually have to choose if he or she wants to abstain or not.

Let's assume that prohibiting life to happen MAY be a sin. It may indeed make the youth more daring, knowing that protection is at hand. Fine. But don't they see a bigger sin in allowing life to happen only to see it get malnourished? Sold into another generation of prostitution? Left on the streets to beg and sell flowers? Do they really want to allow life to happen in the womb of a woman only for this baby to share a 2mx2m box with 6 other children?

If this government body really wants to build a strong nation, then they should be creating and implementing laws so that each child is ensured good nutrition, a healthy environment, and excellent education. It is not the government's job to ensure purity. It is a parent's task to build a strong foundation of values in a child. However, if our government does not implement its laws to uplift the Filipinos' lives, then we'll be hard pressed to come up with healthy functional families that will birth and nurture healthy, well-adjusted and educated Filipino citizens. It's a vicious cycle. The more couples produce children they cannot support, the more our country is ridden with poverty, the more our next generation will be pinned against the wall of immoral and degrading means to survive. If these guys are really pro-life, then they should make sure that these children live to the fullest and not merely survive our cruel world.

I feel like hypocrisy is happily having a party in the house of representatives. I am annoyed by politicians quoting from the Scriptures and making the house session sound almost like a long homily. If they are so concerned in making the Filipino lives better, how about they all give up their pork barrels for starters? Watch this video form my friend Sheila Catilo and see why we need the RH Bill.
